December 14th

Some things we did this week:
  • Learned how money is made
  • Practiced handwriting
  • Worked on breaking up words into smaller parts
  • Worked on some more winter crafts
  • Researched winter animals
  • Learned strategies for adding 3 digits together 
  • Attended the K/4th grade chorus concert

  • What did you do with your buddies this week? 
  • What's your favorite book in your book box? 
  • Can you show off some of your handwriting? (we worked on c, a, o, g, and d this week)

You’re Invited!

The Loons are hosting our 2nd annual winter solstice PJ and game day on December 20th. Please send your first grader to school dressed cozy along with their favorite board game. At 1:45-2:45 we would love to host our families for some warm winter fun! We look forward to seeing you!

December 7

In lieu of teacher gifts please consider donating to The Georgie Badiel Foundation.  The book The Water Princess is inspired by Georgie and reveals the clean water crisis in Burkina Faso. The Loons worked closely with Georgie last year and in January as a class we will also be helping this cause. We will share more information after the holidays. Thank you! :) Lindsay

November 30th

  • Continued working on upper case letters where they belong
  • Practiced turn around facts (2+3=3+2) 
  • Introduced fact families
  • Learned about how emojis were made

Important dates: 
    December 4 at 6:30pm: Fireside Chat #2: Judy Eitler will be hosting a viewing of Lynn Lyons's video, "DECREASING ANXIETY: HOW TO TALK TO YOUR ANXIOUS CHILD". This 45-minute video "consultation" provides the language parents need to both help your anxious child and interrupt your worried parenting habits. Lynn Lyons highlights the common mistakes that feel "right" and loving and act as a short term fix, but actually make the problem of anxiety worse over time. In keeping with her concrete and accessible approach, Lynn Lyons uses drawings, metaphors and memorable words to immediately help you find your way out of the worry trap. Judy will followup the viewing with a Q and A session.

  • Learned about the equal sign
  • Became Word Detectives-shhh it's TOP SECRET
  • Began our thankful journals (Tom Brady even made the list) 
  • Learned about unicorns
  • Figured out how many people are in the world
  • Made our own turkeys
  • Read about Veterans Day
  • Practiced spelling new words using words we already know

  • Continued working on our narrative writing with a focus on spelling
